May 25 Outer Banks Beach Music Festival
11 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Ready for some fun in the sun? Our annual festival celebrating beach music and the coming summer season. Big crowds gather on the spacious lawn of the pavilion. The best beach music bands take the stage and play all day long. This year we have performing: The Band of Oz, The Craig Woolard Band, The Coastline Band and Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs. Kick off your shoes and dance on the lawn. Bring plenty of sunscreen and blankets or folding chairs. Food and beverages, including beer, are available. The two loathed one another and yet are buried in the same tomb in London’s Westminster Abbey. The production takes place in the tomb, in the present day. Shepherd of the Ocean is a whimsical comedy about Sir Walter Raleigh and Queen Elizabeth I and takes place moments before Sir Walter Raleigh’s execution. He has been sentenced to be beheaded by King James I of England on a charge of treason. King James I succeeded Queen Elizabeth to the English throne. At the time of his death, Sir Walter Raleigh was in his 60’s and Queen Elizabeth had been dead for 15 years. The show is produced by Elizabeth R and Company. Wright Brothers National Memorial. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This kite festival celebrates 105 years of flight with professional kite fliers from all over the world. July 22 - 25 Summer Children’s Performance Series - Wild West
10:30 a.m. Film Theatre at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Chris McDaniel and his One-man Wild West Show mixes trick roping and bullwhip artistry with classic Western songs like Rawhide, and a little magic thrown in. He began singing professionally in 1974. He has performed on the Grand Ole Opry with Roy Acuff and Minnie Pearl and acted in many musicals including Oklahoma and Annie Get Your Gun.

August 4 - 28 Rob Snyder: Paintings of Pier, Surf and Sea life
Art Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Robbie Snyder of Kill Devil Hills creates a fascinating show that speaks to his love of the marine environment. A painter and a sculptor, Snyder has a rich portfolio that includes huge acrylic paintings featuring a combination of airbrush and regular brushwork. Think ocean, waves, piers, dolphins, turtles, surfers and more. He also paints marine themes in oils of big surf and lots of light from places he’s traveled in the Caribbean with his wife Debbie. People passionate about the coast will be thrilled with this exhibition. An opening reception will be held on August 3 from 4 - 6 p.m. It is free and open to the public. August 9 - 10 Annual Roanoke Island American Indian Culture Festival & Powwow
Come and enjoy this wonderful native experience as tribes gather on ancestral grounds to celebrate and share our culture on the west side of Roanoke Island along the tranquil waters of the Croatan Sound. This event will feature a gathering of American Indian tribes from across the nation dressed in tribal regalia, traditional and contemporary American Indian music, dance, visual arts, storytelling, crafts and health screenings while learning about various dances and the regalia worn.
The ground opens to the public at 10:30 a.m. for educational displays and the sale of American Indian crafts. Grand Entry on Saturday will begin at 12:00 Noon and at 1PM on Sunday.
