- Visit the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Climb to the top for a great view of the surrounding areas and a great family photo. For those who aren’t able to climb, stroll through the museum in the lighthouse keeper’s quarters and take a look at the history of the lighthouse.
- Evening under the stars- Take the family out for dessert. Have a bonfire on the beach and roast marshmallows for smores or just sit around and enjoy the fellowship and conversation with family and friends.
**Ground fires are permitted until 12 midnight. Ground fires are permitted only on the ocean beach below high tide line and must be more than 100 feet from a vegetated area. Before you leave the beach, you must extinguish your fire with water.
- Canoe Pea Island- Tour some of the areas unseen by land travelers. Take a short trip to Pea Island for a family canoe tour through the marshes, islands and creeks of the Pamlico Sound. Be sure you make your reservations in advance to accommodate your entire family.
- Pack the family into the car for a trip to Ocracoke Island. Take the 40 minute ferry ride across the Hatteras Inlet to the very quaint island for a day of shopping and dining.
- Spend a day at the beach! Load up the towels, tents, boogie boards, and sunscreen, fill the cooler with lots of cold drinks, and roll the grill out to the beach for a fun day in the sun. The kids will have a blast playing in the water and the sand while the adults enjoy the time socializing with family and friends. Keep the family together even after the sun begins to set and grill out on the beach. This waterfront view is hard to beat.
