Cape Hatteras National Seashore has been working on a new beach access in Buxton complete with parking and restroom facilities. The new access will be open to the public on May 24th and will include a 50-car parking area, portable restrooms, and a non-slip wheelchair beach access mat. Plans for permanent restrooms and showers is still under development and will be completed in a later phase.

Located at the end of Old Lighthouse Rd., visitors will pass through a residental area to reach the new access. Please pay close attention to speed limit signs, pedestrians, pets, wildlife, and children along the roadway.

Along with the new Buxton beach access, a new 50-car parking area has been completed and opened at Kite Point located on the Avon & Buxton stretch. The parking area will help to get cars off of the side of Highway 12, creating a safer access to the Pamlico Sound for visitors.
