The National Park Services hosts various events and talks throughout the week. All programs are FREE unless otherwise noted. Some programs do require pre-registration.
20th Anniversary: The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Move - 10:30am - 11am/Daily
Learn about the monumental move event that happened in 1999 when the entire light station was moved 2,900ft away from the threat of a changing shoreline. Meet at Visitor Center Pavilion.
Shaping this Barrier Island - 3:30pm - 4pm/Daily
Wars, wind, hurricanes, and ocean currents have all had impacts on the shore of Cape Hatteras. Join us to learn about some of these events and the changes they have made to the island. Meet at Visitor Center Pavilion.
Fish with a Ranger - 8am - 9:30am/Mondays & Tuesday (Thru Aug 27th)
We bring the poles, you bring the bait! Call 252-475-9622 to pre-register beginning the Saturday prior to the program. Buxton & Rodanthe Locations.
Kids Ranger Program - 11:30am - Noon/Tuesday & Fridays (Thru Aug 30th)
Hands-on games or activities for kids and families all about seashore animals. Meet at Visitor Center Pavilion.
Dark Skies Over Hatteras - 9pm - 10pm - Tuesdays (Thru Aug 27th)
Bring blankets and chairs for this evening of stars and stories on the beach. Ramp 43 parking area.
Castnetting - 9:30am - 11am/Wednesdays (Thru Aug 28th)
Practice this early method of fishing still used today. Call 252-475-9622 to pre-register beginning the Saturday prior to the program.
Morning Bird Walk - 8am - 9:30am/Thursdays (Thru Aug 29th)
Meet winged residents and those traveling the Atlantic Flyway. Binoculars are available. Bring bug spray. Meet at Ramp 44.
Salvo Soundside Activates for Kids - 9:30am - 10am/Fridays (Thru Aug 30th)
Meet at Salvo Sound Access for soundside exploration and discovery.
