Enjoy the community playground and a short scenic drive or bike ride to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Bed Sizes: 1 King, 1 Queen, 2 TwinsBuild a beautiful resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come! The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bikes, because Buxton's unique shops, restaurants, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD vehicle - those in the know have discovered that the jetties east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). The interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape. Guests have access to the Club Hatteras Pool located in Avon at the Hatteras Realty office.Please Note: As a barrier island, Hatteras is constantly changing. Beach conditions, dunes, and access points may vary due to erosion, restoration projects, weather, and other environmental factors. ------------------------------ ## Reviews ### (4/5 stars) House was clean and well maintained. Although, it was disappointing of the cleanliness when we first checked in (pills in the kids bedroom chest, water bottles and tissues under the bed). Definitley could have more essentials (salt and pepper, toilet paper, paper towels) but overall you can’t beat the location of the beach. It was decently clean upon arrival. The carpeting and area rugs seem a bit aged. One of the smoke detectors started to go off during our stay, presumably due to a low battery. The dishwasher has broken, rusty tynes that leave rust marks on items. The dishwasher also runs and runs and runs, for hours. It doesn't seem to know when to stop the cycle. The outdoor seating was covered in sand, almost like it just got pulled out of the ocean. It required cleaning to be usable. There is a serious lack of towel racks in the bathrooms. For a house that sleeps 6, there are only 2 towel racks. Not even hooks for towels. There is plenty of wall space for towel racks and/or hooks. We purchased a box of breakfast pastries one evening. Set it unopened on the kitchen counter overnight and it was covered in ants the following morning. The beach in this area could be a little questionable. The houses that are oceanfront now are in the ocean during high tide, making walking hazarous. You are basically on a captive beach during high tide with houses getting ready to be consumed by the ocean to the left and the closed bird nesting area to the right. The unsafe houses are curious. Beachgoers use them to hang out in the shade and store their gear. A questionable thing to do at best. - C M. Posted on 7/22/2026 ### (5/5 stars) Another AMAZING family OBX vacation in the books! We absolutely LOVE staying at both the CONCH unit as well as the CRANE unit.(over the course of the last 4 years, we have stayed in both). Always an amazing experience…. That’s why we keep coming back year after year! Upon arrival there was a bike waiting for me which I rented from the company “VAYKLIFE” with my $75 OFF coupon gift from Hatteras Realty at the time of booking…. (Do yourself a favor and take advantage of the coupon available to you… so many things to choose from!). Upon arrival, all 4 of the adults recognized that it was the CLEANEST it has ever been!!! So props to the cleaning lady, pretty sure her name was Annette! You did an AMAZING job! The view of the ocean was BREATHTAKING! Beach time directly in front of the house was so convenient, especially with 2 toddlers…. Thanks Hatteras Realty! We didn't get to use it much because of the hot weather. Plenty of storage on the bottom floor for all the beach and fishing stuff which we bring alot of. We have been coming to OBX for over 30 years and this is the first time we rented a townhouse with one other unit attached and everything went really well. We definitely would rent again. - David C. The kitchen was lacking a few key items for cooking, but we made due with what was there. The non-stick pans were actually not wrecked by previous guests which is a rarity in rental homes. I wished there was a fish cleaning station outside which is pretty much standard issue at every house in OBX. All the homes around were clean and well kept, neighbors were quiet and friendly. The home was beautiful and clean. We enjoyed the ocean views and sounds from the screened in porch during meals and in the mornings with coffee. They offer a great view of the lighthouse and a relatively easy commute to the beach. It’s a nice quiet neighborhood that is well kept. This house was clean and obviously had some major updates recently (floors, lighting, counter tops). I lit appeared a previous guest removed numerous lightbulbs throughout the house. The dryer also appeared to have been tampered with and wasn’t functioning right. Maintenance responded quickly and addressed these concerns when we reported them. Location is just perfect, a nice view at the ocean and just steps away from a wonderfull beach. The place is clean, fill with sunlight, recently decorated (Beach style), 2 patios (one with the ocean view). The outdoor shower was a big plus. The service with Vacasa is also very good. The only criticism: two of the three mattresses are not very comfortable.
