An ocean beach road traverses the estuary. At the end lies the splendid semi-oceanfront home “SOLITUDE.” Your hosts, the Miller family, welcome you to this serene quarter-acre of tranquil Hatteras Island life, surrounded on one side by the ocean and on three sides by wetlands, situated half way between Kitty Hawk and Cape Hatteras, and sited squarely in the midst of ten national wildlife refuges, two national seashore parks, and a quarter million acres of protected habitat.

This 2500 s.f., five bedroom (plus bunk room), 3.5 bath home has an unequaled dunefront location, with its own private beach access. All oceanside rooms enjoy deck access with up-close views of the Atlantic. All soundside rooms, including the kitchen, have private balconies providing splendid estuary views with Pamlico Sound beyond. Enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the sunrise over the ocean or observing the eclectic mix of shore birds dip for their own breakfast and take flight. Finish the day with a romantic glass of wine, watching the sunset over the Pamlico Sound or observing the colors change in the Atlantic Ocean.

The hours between coffee and moon rise beckon umbrellas and sand castles with private beach access. Be sure to have a camera handy to capture the memories of your close family and friends and the found beach treasures and wildlife. Get your dose of Vitamin Sea as you spend an idyllic day on the national seashore collecting shells, taking an invigorating dip in the ocean or enjoy the surfing.

Solitude’s guests appreciate bottom-to-top amenities from a ground level outdoor shower, 2 hammocks, locking storage room, two carports, and dry entry, to ceiling fans in every room (except the kids’ bunk room), to always-ready chilled and hot water dispensers with tea stations on every level, to comfortable lounge and bistro seating on every deck, to an outdoor kitchen including grill, wet bar, and refrigerator on the top level ocean panorama deck.

The first floor living area has two bedrooms plus a well-appointed oceanfront game room with pool table, deck access, large LCD flat screen TV, ½ bath, and wet bar with sink, micro, and bar fridge. The oceanfront bedroom has a full bed, large LCD flat screen TV, and ocean deck. The kid’s room has a pyramid bed, large LCD flat screen TV, and sunset deck. Puppy-palace #1 (dog beds and water dishes) is also located on the first floor.

The second floor holds the conveniently-located laundry nook with full-size washer and dryer, plus three bedrooms. An oceanfront queen master bedroom has direct hot tub deck access, large LCD flat screen TV, and full bath with tub/shower. A second oceanfront queen bedroom has direct hot tub deck access and large LCD flat screen TV. The third queen bedroom opens to its own private sunset deck. The full bath located between these two bedrooms has a tub/shower.

The third level living room with cathedral ceilings has incredible ocean, sound, and estuary views. The living area has comfortable resort furniture, a large sectional, entertainment center with over-sized flat screen TV and stereo, and opens directly to the panorama deck. The third floor oceanside king master also has direct panorama deck access, as well as direct access to the west-facing breakfast deck. The well-appointed kitchen has granite counters, tile floors, plenty of space for every aspiring chef, and is conveniently just steps to the outdoor kitchen on the panorama deck. In between is the over-sized 8-seat dining table, with additional seating (plus puppy-palace #2) available in the adjacent breakfast nook, and on the breakfast deck.

Savvy vacationers would do well to take the road less traveled and experience for themselves why the Millers named it “Solitude.”
