  Full Moon Lighthouse Tour
08/26/2018
8pm & 9pm
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse 46368 Lighthouse Rd, Buxton NC 27920
252-473-2111
https://www.recreation.gov/tourParkDetail.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=141991

Grab your flashlight and experience a lighthouse at night by joining the National Park Service on a Full Moon Tour of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Hear stories of keepers of old, view the working light close up in the lantern room, and catch the reflection off the Atlantic Ocean of the newly-risen full moon as you stand on the lighthouse balcony.

Two tour times are being offered at 8 pm & 9 pm.

Tickets are required and must be purchased in advance online through www.recreation.gov, starting at 10 am Eastern Standard Time, three days prior to the tour date. Tickets are $8 per adult, and $4 for children (15 and under) and seniors (62 and older). The number of visitors on each tour is limited--it is best to purchase your ticket early.

Tours may be canceled if weather conditions are unsafe, i.e. high winds, storms, and/or lightning in the area.

Children joining the climb must be at least 42-inches tall and must climb the steps on their own—they cannot be carried. Also, keep in mind that some youngsters may not enjoy the dimly lit, sometimes claustrophobic environment. Children 11 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult (16 or older).

Prior to purchasing tickets, consider your own limitations and those of your group. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse has 257 steps from the ground to the balcony level--equal to climbing a 12-story building. The lighthouse is tall, dark, often hot and humid, and can be a challenge to climb. There is no air conditioning or internal lights.

For questions or more information, please call 252-473-2111.

You’ll be able to get your hands dirty and enjoy the process of turning a lump of clay into a handmade piece of decorative pottery for your home. Once your piece is assembled, you may pick your choice of glaze. We will then dry, bisque fire, glaze and fire your piece again. The process takes about three weeks. Upon completion, we’ll ship your new piece of pottery to you.

Wildly known for its rich history of saving souls in peril from the sea, the Chicamacomico Life Saving Station for many years conducted a reenactment of the beach apparatus rescue drill. The drill was recognized as an integral part of the life saving service and early Coast Guard along our shores. We are pleased to again offer the opportunity for the public to witness the life saving technique as it was conducted from the Civil Ware until the 1950s.

Site Admission: $8/General, $7/Seniors & Student Rate, $6/Kids 4-7, Free/4 & Under
