“So shines a good deed in a weary world” - Roald Dahl

Chaplain/Executive Director Marie Boyd of The Hampton Roads Good Samaritan Fund has raised $10,000 for the Outer Banks Foundation that will go to aiding the residents of Ocracoke Island.

After hearing of the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian on Ocracoke Island, Marie Boyd decided to once again do her tent fundraiser, as she has successfully done in the past. Boyd camped out for 4 nights in a tent set up at the Todd Stadium in Newport News Va. Outside of the tent was a donation box where folks could stop by and drop a monetary donation into the box. After 4 days in the tent, donations totaled $10,000!

Boyd will be traveling down to Ocracoke Island to hand deliver the check. Hatteras Realty homeowners, Glenn & Liz Rollins, has graciously donated her rental house Sandy Bottom for Boyd to stay in while visiting our area to deliver the much needed funds to Ocracoke.

Kudos to Marie Boyd and all those who contributed to her fundraiser! You can read all the details of Marie’s fundraising tent adventure on The Hampton Roads Good Samaritan Fund Facebook page.

Ocracoke Island is still in need of support. If you would like to donate, please visit the Outer Banks Community Foundation. For donation of goods and services, please visit the Ocracoke Disater Relief Facebook page for a list of needed items and ways to volunteer on the island:
