A Proud Hatteras Island Company, Locally Led and Community Focused
Hatteras Realty has been part of Hatteras Island’s story for more than 40 years. Founded in 1982 by Stewart Couch, on the values of authenticity, service, and community, for decades the company played an active role in supporting local schools, nonprofits, events, and island traditions.
After Stewart's passing, the company was sold to Wyndham Vacation Rentals in 2014. In 2019, Vacasa acquired Wyndham, and in 2021 Vacasa further expanded by purchasing Outer Beaches Realty - another deeply rooted local brand. By mid-2022, both Hatteras Realty and Outer Beaches Realty were consolidated under the Vacasa name.
Today, after more than a decade of corporate ownership, Hatteras Realty has returned to local leadership, officially returning to its roots - back in local hands, guided by people who live and work right here on the island.
