Celebrate the heritage and traditions of Hatteras Island’s working waterfront at Day at the Docks, a beloved annual festival held along the docks and marinas of Hatteras Village. The event was created after Hurricane Isabel in 2003 as a celebration of the community’s resilience and the generations of watermen who have shaped life on Hatteras Island.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy fresh local seafood, live music, fishing and maritime demonstrations, competitions, educational exhibits and children’s activities. The celebration concludes with the moving Blessing of the Fleet, when the community gathers at the harbor to honor local watermen and pray for their safety at sea and successful catches.
It’s a particularly nice event for visitors because it feels authentically Hatteras—less like a typical festival and more like a celebration of the people, fishing traditions and working-waterfront culture that make the island special.
