Wings Over Water
- Location: Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center
Discover the wild side of the Outer Banks during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival, one of the East Coast’s premier nature festivals. The 2026 festival features roughly 60 guided programs focused on birding, paddling, wildlife photography and natural history, led by experienced naturalists, photographers and wildlife experts.
Activities take place throughout six national wildlife refuges in northeastern North Carolina, including Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, making this an especially relevant event for Hatteras Island visitors. Programs range from guided birding excursions and wildlife photography tours to paddling adventures and nature walks, with opportunities to spot everything from migratory shorebirds and waterfowl to black bears and other native wildlife.
A special WOW Encore returns December 4–6 with birding excursions timed to coincide with the arrival of large numbers of wintering waterfowl.
