This was my 27th rental on the Outer Banks and I have been in all kinds of houses. This home was smaller because it was built long before the huge houses started being made in the 80s. The furnishings and appointments have been kept updated and on par with much newer and larger cottages. The outside entertainment area is a wonderful addition and allowed because of the large dunes and wide beach which protects the land under the home from storm surge. We didn't use the park grill, but did enjoy the bar area and cornhole set. The walk to the beach is relatively short, but may be challenging for anyone with mobility issues since the path past the boardwalk is steep. A few other houses will also use the same path to the beach and the horde of people accessing the beach from the public access 150' to the south is going to impact how 'crowded' the beach feels. The master bedroom suite is fine, but I would note that there is notable noise coming from the traffic on the highway. The other bedrooms can't hear it as well, but the MBR definitely can. If you sleep in this room and are sensitive to noise you may want to use some type of sound mitigation.

This was a great traditional beach house with nice outdoor shower, stocked kitchen, beach chairs and boogie boards to use, lovely screened in porch, and a great location to get to the beach or sound or pier. Relaxing week with lots of walks, surfing, and cooking!

We loved our time here. The house was perfect for our needs. This is our 2nd year staying here. Love the screened-in porch and the outdoor shower station. It was great for washing sand off kids!! Hot tub is also nice, but we didn’t use it this year because the weather was just too hot! We’ll definitely be back.

Great location, clean and comfortable. Would stay again. Furniture, flooring and fixtures are definitely dated and master bathroom needs blinds so neighbors can’t see in from their top deck. We will be back.

My husband has low vision so we were looking for a single story simple layout. For the whole family a screen porch is a must. This house was perfect and to top it off, the porch faced the ocean. We were unfortunate to have weather from the aftermath of Hurricane Debby, but we could sit on the porch and read and hear the ocean which was lovely. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking and the outdoor shower was wonderful. The downstairs guest room was perfect for movie night when others wanted to watch baseball upstairs

We pretty much lived on the porches during our stay - all three of the levels had great features and everything we needed, plus we could listen to the ocean. The ground level has recently been updated with nice features (built in charcoal grill, bar area, corn hole, hose, large shower with dressing area, good lighting) that was wonderful for all the beach stuff, getting ready/returning from the beach, plus hanging out. The middle deck had a picnic table, beautiful Adirondack chairs and the hot tub which we put to regular use. The upper deck had an outside seating area plus the lovely screened in porch with new furniture and the picnic table where we ate all our meals and played games. The views from the living room were wonderful - though we couldn't see the actual surf, it was still a lovely panoramic water view with all the surrounding dunes. While the indoor furniture and decor was a bit dated, everything was very comfortable and spacious with lots of room to spread out and all of the amenities we needed for the week. The large (8 person) kitchen table was a nice feature. The beds were comfortable and the house was surprisingly "sound proof" for those sleeping in the back bedrooms. We pushed the twin beds together to make another "king" room. The only negative we had was the beaches are sloped in this area, so the waves are pretty rough and the water gets deep quickly. We still went in the water but spent most of our time at the beach in front of the house just hanging out, playing games, taking walks, etc. Lighthouse beach (about a 10 minute drive) had a beach and surf that was a little easier to get in. However, the access to the sound from this house can't be beat. We brought paddle boards and floats, rented wind surfers, and were at the sound every afternoon -- a quick 3 minute drive to Canadian Hole. The Askins Creek store and gas station across the street was a great bonus as we grabbed ice, drinks, and snacks from there almost every day. Many wonderful restaurants to choose from -- would recommend the Sandbar and Grille as it had wonderful sunset views over the sound while dining. We did have one small maintenance issue which was quickly responded to. Overall, highly recommend this property!!!!

Well stocked home with lots of amenities. Hot tub was hot and loved all the outdoor space, corn hole. Beautiful setting and a lovely beach shack feel.

We were there when the mosquitoes were out of control. So happy to have the screened in porch. The dunes obscure the ocean view, as expected, but I could still see enough of the ocean to know it was there. Lots of kitchenware for any type of cooking. The house south of Solrise was a further away than usual and afforded us more privacy and a great view down the dunes. Very pretty. Would book again.

The house was roomy and clean and the bed were comfortable. The kitchen was well equiped with all of the essentials. No sharp knives. Access to beach accesorries would be nice eg. Boggie boards, beach chairs, canopy tent and the oars to the kyack. These items are expensive and we have no use for them after we leave.

Our family of 5 (3 teens/almost teens) plus 2 grandparents stayed here for our last week of summer vacation. It was amazing. The location is ideal because you can walk right over the dune onto the beach from the property or you can drive a block down to the drive-on beach. Or you can drive and the stragglers can walk down and meet up with you! Loved having the BP station and Askins Creek convenience shop right across the street. The Food Lion and plenty of shops are less than 5 minutes away. The hot tub was awesome, with a perfect view, and we also really enjoyed the screened-in back deck! The TVs all being set up with the roku was a nice feature too. Rooms were all nice with enough space, the decor and art were great, and everything was clean and working perfectly. The downstairs bonus room became my 17 year old's "apartment" when he got sick of hanging around us. :) Kitchen had all the utensils and stuff you'd need, and the layout really worked for us, we like having the open kitchen/living room setup. Oh, and the VayK gear credit thing was a really nice extra! We rented surfboards for the week and the kids had a blast.

House was great. The deck needs a lil work but everything was awesome. Ocean front is the way to go. The sand dunes are a workout so be ready. Beds were comfortable, had a lot of dishes, pots and pans.

I love the small details like the nicer comforter tops, the calendar detailing the farmer's market dates, the recommendations in the house book, and access to the beach chairs and kayak. The covered screened porch is a highlight and I think I'll have to have one at every house we select going forward. The hot tub was also fabulous and well maintained. It looked new.

We had an amazing week! The house was lovely, especially the screened in porch!!! The only issue is the beach access is a pretty good hike over the dunes and could be an issue for people with health issues. Otherwise an amazing house, very clean, had everything we needed!

This house is amazing. Easy to get to the beach, screened in and outdoor porches, everything all in one big space inside and a nice addition with the hotub. This house gives you the flexibility to enjoy all of Avon, but hop right on south to Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras very quickly, since you are right at the end of Avon. Need quick drinks and snacks? Walk across the street to BP in 45 seconds. Like to drive onto the beach? Ramp 38 is so close that you could drive up all of your gear on the beach and friends/family can walk to the car from the house. Rather spend a day at the bay windsurfing? The Haulover day-use area is ridiculously close. Will plan to try to stay here again next year.

This home is just as presented. The location is great to the beach and to head north or south with plenty of close access to food and restaurants. It is clean and provides all you need for a great week away. A few of the stove tops did not work, but owner may not have known about that and the rooms closest to HW12 may hear some road noise while in bed. Plenty of utensils for food prep and the hot tub is a nice addition, as is having a W/D for clothes. Good communications from management. Go for it!
