Description Description
With more than 2,800 square feet of living space, this sound-front home is beautifully isolated on 15+ acres of maritime forest and wetlands. The top floor has a gourmet kitchen with a six-burner Viking range and an extra-large oven, so cooking may become enjoyable on vacation. From the open kitchen, living room, and dining room, you have wonderful views. The living room's big-screen TV with a home theater is great for movie nights, so bring your favorite DVDs. The first master bedroom is on the top floor, offering a custom, extra-large walk-in shower. On the second level is a den with a large-screen TV, views of the sound, and deck access. This deck is shaded by live oak trees; it's a great place to kick back and read a book. The hot tub is also located on this deck in the screened porch. Three bedrooms are located on the middle floor, including a second master bedroom. On the ground floor is another den with a game room featuring air hockey, a full-size video arcade, and a large-screen TV, creating a great place for the kids to have fun. Two additional bedrooms are on this floor, including the bunk room. Knock Out has the best views of the Pamlico Sound and the surrounding wetlands; many locals claim they're the best views on Hatteras Island. Enjoy excellent windsurfing, kiteboarding, and kayaking from this location, as well as direct walk-in access with a grassy rigging area, board racks, and locking storage. There are two outdoor showers, grills, and a fish-cleaning station as well. Carefully molded into the landscape, Knock Out sits at the end of a long driveway with direct access to miles of roads for jogging or biking.

The view toward the sound a highlight, and the dining/ living area situated on the top floor is a perfect perch from which to watch the world. But there are steps. The main entrance on the lower floor is already about four feet from the ground, and it was a heart-pumping job to cart groceries and suitcases up two more flights of steps to the top-floor kitchen and bedroom. But once the kitchen was stocked and the suitcases stowed, what more could we want? The house isn't new but is comfortable and homey. The kitchen table squeaks and jiggles, but it seats 10. The living room furniture is comfortable, and the beds are good. Be aware that Vacasa only provides a minimum of supplies. No extra garbage bags, a minimum of dish soap, and about 2 towels per bathroom. For the week. There are no dishrags or dish towels. Bring those items and some laundry detergent. The laundry is way downstairs, but it was a lifesaver for our crew. The sound is full of crabs, clams, and pinfish. There's no dock, but we waded in to the waist and caught a variety, including puppy drum and speckled trout. Except for the weather, it was a very good week.

What a wonderful place this turned out to be. Whole family loved it. The top floor became the centerpiece for all to gather. Water access was great. Enjoyed watching the paragliders, sailboarding. Pier is close and the fish were biting. Several restaurants to choose from, get started early they fill fast. People in the neighborhood are friendly.

We absolutely loved the privacy of this home. We loved the private sound access and all of the wildlife that comes with the home. A few minor inconveniences but that's to be expected from a Hatteras Island home. We highly recommend this home if you're an outdoorsman, or like any kind of water sports.

Great house and location. We had 6 adults and 6 children, and all were comfy with the bedrooms. It was like we had our own private beach on the sound. The sunsets were great, as was watching the kite boarders. Great kitchen and family area. Only downside was the mosquitoes Bring bug repellent. Hope we can stay there again next year.

My husband and I booked this place for our honeymoon. Ignore the past reviews, the house was clean and beautiful! The views in the living room may be the best in obx! We wanted a beach spot with privacy and this was the perfect place for it. Unfortunately, I caught a bug and was sick the whole trip, so we didn't get to use the kayaks provided (the main reason why we stayed here!). The hottub was amazing and so peaceful. It was incredibly windy, but we got an amazing show everyday of 5-10 people kite surfing! I would love to return again when I'm not sick!! Seriously, this was the perfect place to stay and unwind.

This is my favorite house in Avon! Down a private wooded drive, everything was clean, the beds were comfy, and the views from the top floor were unbeatable! Views of the sound all around. Highly recommend.

This house, located on the sound side in northern Avon, has exceptional views of the sound from the north around to the west, which means spectacular views of the sunset (and plenty of deck space from which to view it)! The back of the house also has gently sloping access to the shallow sound, great for kayaking, paddleboarding, or just floating in tubes to take it all in! There's also plenty of nature to take in. Live oak trees surround and enclose the house, adding to the sense of privacy and closeness to nature. Deer walk through the neighborhood, and there is abundant life over and in the water - herons, egrets, terns, gulls, and pelicans can be found flying around, and the sound teems with plenty of fish crabs, and the occasional ray swimming by. This is our second time staying here, and we enjoy it even more than we did the first time. We will definitely return for future vacations here!

This is a solid 5 star property! The house is located on a fabulous location with privacy and outstanding views of the sound. We found some bad reviews of this property before our stay and contacted the property manager. They assured us the issues would be resolved, and sure they were. We found a very clean house, everything working perfectly, and outstanding kitchen with breathtaking views. The sunset view from the dining area is one of the most beautiful I have ever experienced in the confort of a nice house. Parking is easy and convenient, the bedrooms are comfortable and bathrooms are in great shape. The hot-tube seems to be very new and fits 6 adults. It is located in a great position when the wind comes from North (normally the coldest wind) so you can comfortably use it even during storm days as the ones we had. Overall, a great stay and highly recommend this property.

This spacious home is great for a large family or group of friends. There is plenty of room to relax on the multiple decks or get some games going at the large dining room table. The easy access to the water is great for putting in your kayaks or wading in the sound. It is a treat to see all the kite surfers and wind surfers doing their thing out there. The sunset view is the best due to the property being almost entirely surrounded by waters of the sound. It is the most spectacular panoramic view from the upper level! The kitchen is equipped better than most vacation homes. From plates, bowls, and silverware to platters, skillets, and glassware there is plenty for your group. We like to cook most of our meals while vacationing so the 6 burner gas range is a huge win. The cleanliness when we arrived was acceptable. The house is "well loved". There are noticeable areas of paint and drywall that are in need of some attention. The furniture is worn but comfortable. The big red couch ended up being the bed for napping several afternoons! It is apparent that the owners are working to spruce it up as we noticed the new carpet, siding, and roof during our stay. We picked this house for our 2023 trip while staying in a house across from it in 2022. We would stay here again. We loved our time at Knock Out.

270-degree water views, a little beach, and privacy! So much space that a family can really spread out. This was our second trip to Knock Out, and we can’t wait to go back.

The view was amazing and loved how secluded the house was! Lots of room for everyone to have their own space. Nice size kitchen and large stove to cook meals for a big group. Loved the accessibility of being able to put our kayaks in so easily to the sound. The one thing that needs more attention is the cleaning. The house was somewhat clean, however there was animal hair on the top level floor, dust on the entertainment center, and the shower in the top floor masterbedroom had dirt and grim in between the sliding glass doors, which was suprising since there was supposed to be extensive cleaning done due to covid according to the website.

This home was perfect for our “framily” vacation. Each family had their own floor, living area and bathrooms. The views from this home are the best we have ever had from any rental over our last 11 years up and down the OBX. The kitchen was more than adequately equipped with amazing appliances and any tools you may need. The three kings suited each of the adult couples well. There are a LOT of stairs but each time you climb them and reach the top, you are rewarded with practically a 270 degree water view. It’s truly amazing. The furniture in the main living area is still in good repair as far as stains and tears but is not comfortable at all. The cushions show the wear and tear (as a rental would, we expected this) but it didn’t bother us much as we spent most of our time outside on the deck, at the sound or on the beach. The house advertises a small “beach” where kids can play but we weren’t able to utilize that. There wasn’t any sand there, just covered up with a lot of old grass washed up. The adults however did wade out into the sound for some fishing. It’s barely waist deep way out, mostly knee deep. Very nice for them. Another reviewer mentioned the carpets were gross but they seem to have since been shampooed, and didn’t look bad at all. The beds were semi comfortable and the master bath was nice. Shower wasn’t remotely clean but would be very nice should someone put in some elbow grease. The house overall served our needs and didn’t cause any hiccups. Everything was in working order, worn, but working. We would rent again, most likely, for the views. You can see the sunrise perfectly from the kitchen window and the view of the sunset across the sound was breathtaking every single night. My wine in the evening will never be the same without that amazing view. Will be hard to beat.

We were worried about renting this place because there was only one review on VRBO and it didn't look all that favorable. But the calendar showed that it is always rented, so we figured with all those people renting there would be more bad reviews if it was really bad. It was really good! The driveway is a long very secluded dirt driveway shrouded in trees. During the day when you first arrive, the entry to the driveway looks like maybe this isn't a driveway at all and maybe we should recheck the map to make sure we're in the right place. At night it looks like a road to a haunted house and we should keep out! But the seclusion is a benefit during your stay, especially if you are having a family reunion of some kind. It feels like you rented your own island (a little). As you roll down the driveway and round the corner to emerge from the crowded tree branches that almost threaten to leave a mark on your car (not really), a space opens up to reveal the parking areas and the big grand house. There is a nice place to park your car under cover near the outdoor showers. The outside of the house is not as new and shiny as the decade-old photos available online. It is now a neutral color and kind of sun-beaten. But in good repair. When we arrived it smelled a little stale, which didn't make a good first impression on the first floor. Later we realized the stale smell was probably due to a recent pest control treatment and the residual smell didn't last long. We did not see any pests during our stay! The layout is great for a family with kids. The first floor has the game room, a refrigerator, an exit to a small deck area with a gas grill outside. The air hockey table worked and all of the required pieces were there to play. The video game worked once we figured out how to turn it on in the back. The first floor has a bedroom with a big king size bed and an adjacent full bathroom with jack/jill access from both the gaming area and the bedroom. The kids stayed on the first floor in the "bunk room" which is across from the big bedroom. The first floor also has the washer and dryer in a closet behind some folding doors. The second floor has three bedrooms: one master suite with a private full bath and deck access near the hot tub, another bedroom with a queen bed that also has deck access, and the last bedroom with two twin beds nearest the shared second floor full bath. The second floor functioned as our "quiet floor" during our stay. The second floor has a sitting area with a couch and TV. This looks like the likely place to hook up a gaming console if the TV in the main living area is in use. The DSL modem/wifi router was also in this area so an ethernet cord is possible here to avoid wifi lag. But that might not help much. The Internet service was useable at times, but not great. During our stay it was provided by Centurylink and had moments of trouble pretty much every hour. The problems never lasted long and you could still watch a streamed show without getting too irritated. The big problem is that it was about 5m down (which is serviceable) and just under 1m up (which is terrible). If two people were doing something at the same time the outbound bandwidth would be saturated and make most everything start to fail. When we all came back from an outing and everybody was uploading pictures it was completely unusable. We had people get off the wifi to stream shows. When you climb the stairs (and climb the stairs and climb the stairs!) to the top floor for the first time and look out the windows in all directions, you immediately realize why this is a great place to rent. It is really a consistently wonderful view. They had recently cut the trees tops that might have obscured the view so it was completely unobstructed. You can see views in nearly 360 degrees. The house is tall enough that on the top floor you can enjoy both sunrises and sunsets. The sunsets were so good that we scheduled it as an event every good-weather night we had. We sat out on the giant deck together with drinks for sunset, and sometimes during the day just to get some sun. In the evening around sunset, one area of the sound always had fish jumping out to eat bugs above the water. It was one of many great things about the secluded location the house has on the sound. The top floor has another master suite with private full bath. And there is a half bath available near the entrance to the master suite for general use. The master bath has a big rectangular shower with a separate shower head on each end of the shower, which seemed novel. The bathroom looked like it was recently renovated. It was in good shape. The living area on the top floor is perfect for visiting with everyone. Some people sat at the big table, other sat in the living room on the couch or chairs. There is a decent size TV in the living area on the top floor and there was DirectTV available. The TV didn't appear to have built-in smart apps, so you should bring your own HDMI dongle of choice for streaming. (AppleTV, Firestick, Roku, Chromecast, etc..) The top floor TV system includes a big audio amp that switches HDMI inputs. There are three speakers built in to the wall that sound pretty good. (Quite audible from the master suite if people stay up late watching movies!) There are also two outside speakers on the top floor deck that are controlled from the amp. This equipment seemed a bit too nice for a rental! I plugged my Chromecast with Youtube TV into the amp and used that to stream from all of my favorite apps. One of the HDMI inputs seems to be dead on the amp, so if you can't see your device try another input on the amp. Using the amp to switch between devices we never had to change inputs on the TV since it got its signal from the amp. There is a small beach area that ended up being a favorite place for the kids to play. You can walk out very far and it only gradually gets deeper. Its a perfect place for kids to play with some floaties or snorkels and masks. It was also warmer than the ocean side which made the kids want to stay in all day. We did a lot of cooking. The kitchen is extremely well supplied, even if some of the pots and pans have a few miles on them. It had nearly everything you could want for preparing a meal. Every type of dish, pot, pan, utensil. Such a big variety of pots and pans! The giant 6-burner Viking gas stove allowed for lots of concurrent cooking and the giant oven allowed us to bake enough chicken for 12 people at once. That stove with the big functional exhaust fan was really fantastic. There were some giant glass and stainless steel bowls we used for cooking, marinating, serving. The kitchen had two Mr Coffee type of drip coffee makers, a Keurig, toaster, blender, etc.. on and on. The Keurig didn't work for us, but the other coffee pots worked. There were no consumables like plastic wrap or spices so we bought that kind of stuff. They did leave a small welcome package with just enough dish soap, dishwasher pods, garbage bags, etc... to get us through a day or two, which was great. We had some hot days and set the AC at 70 and it kept us comfortable even during the hottest parts of the day. Lots of in and out on the deck made it harder for it to keep up so we made sure to be on top of any doors being left open. There are two guest books where people have written entries saying what a good time they are having. Our 19 year old added his thoughts with a charming one page entry that should get some "awwws" from readers. Even with the rainy few days we loved our visit. I would rent this place again with a big group. It's fantastic views and seclusion make it special. The well equipped kitchen made us step up our cooking game. I hope they can improve the internet speeds!
