Close to fishing in Hatteras. The house was super roomy. Kitchen was fully equipped. Would love to come back.

We had our 3rd stay in this property this year (12th overall vacation to Hatteras). This location works perfect for us. Giving a feel of tranquility and seclusion, but close to everything we need. The little sound beach area is perfect for young children to play and for fun kayaking and fishing for adults.

The house was beautiful and had everything we needed. Lots of room. It was perfect. 10 min drive right down the road to frisco beach. Not far from ferry to okracoke. We all loved the pool. Check in and check out was easy. However, rescheduling a booking with vacasa was a nightmare. They fought everything regarding a refund even though we booked within vacasa. Even after someone rebooked our cancelled property they then tried to fight it saying they couldn't pay us until the other peoples vacation was over to make sure they didn't cancel. It was all very shady and it's disappointing because the house itself was perfect but I don't trust booking with vacasa now

Thank you so much for your review! We’re glad to hear you loved the house, the amenities, and the great location. We’re truly sorry for the trouble you experienced with Vacasa — that sounds very frustrating. The good news is that this home is now under new local management, and we’re committed to providing a much smoother and more reliable experience. We appreciate you sharing your feedback and hope you’ll stay with us again!

It was an Amazing watching the sunset over the sound. The house is very spacious and accommodate many guests. The outside under the house needs some cleaning and there is poison ivy along the bank and driveway. Having the walk to the sound right out back was great. Really enjoyed the pool every morning and ended the day there too!!

As the only person in our group experiencing my first house rental, this property was practically perfect in every way! Tasteful decor, comfortable furniture, wonderful customer service from start to finish, convenient access to the small private beach area, close enough to grocery stores, away from crowds which is exactly what we wanted (mid-May stay), and plenty of space for everyone! Although please be aware of the many steps from driveway to kitchen - it’s a workout! We’re hoping to return for many years to come!

House has recently been fully renovated so don't be concerned with previous negative reviews. House was very clean and well appointed, and had a beautiful view. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen well stocked with plenty of dishes, glasses and flatware as well as cooking and serving utensils. Vacasa housekeeping does a wonderful job and left starter items such as toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, hand soap, Dove shampoo and conditioner and kitchen sponge. Although not listed, there are irons and a grill. Air conditioning worked well on all levels. I would highly recommend the owners post new photos in their listing showing the new flooring, bedspreads, etc.

The house has access to the sound and is great for water activities. It's a mostly private beach where only the houses near it have access, and not far from many attractions and restaurants. We enjoyed staying there and have been coming to this house for 4 years now.

The house is set up to be very welcoming. Lots of room to interact together or spend time alone. The view of the sounds was fantastic. We experienced very high winds and heavy rain during our stay and Great S'cape #3BB was a wonderful place to stay cozy, dry and watch the white caps. Enjoy your stay! Buxton was quaint and quiet.

Other than a few minor concerns that have been addressed privately, this house was perfect for our family’s vacation! We have never experienced such gorgeous sunsets during our years vacationing in OBX. We were excited to have private beach access in the sound leading up to the trip, and actually found this to be absolutely crucial during our stay due to the double red flags caused by rip currents in the ocean! The kids (and adults) loved playing in the sound all week. The town is quaint and laid back - everything we were hoping for and it was a short trip to the ferry dock to spend half a day in Ocracoke. We’re looking forward to booking again!! Note for preparation- bunk beds are no longer on site. Instead, you’ll find a full bed and a twin bed with a trundle underneath on opposite sides of that room. It still fit our needs, but we didn't expect this.

Very peaceful If traveling during summer - bring a fan for the top floor- AC was struggling to keep it cool. Inside of the home is beautiful- outside of the home needs some TLC There is a small grill there - when we asked we were told no - but there is one.

The location of the house is perfect to get a little privacy compared to Frisco or Buxton proper. The pool and private beach area on the bay was perfect for the days we didnt want to trek over to the ocean. The photos have not been updated in what seems to be a few years. There is no longer a pool table in the basement but a ping pong table, and the one bedroom which shows bunk beds, are no longer, so if you were expecting 3 beds in that room, it is now 2. The pool area was a bit neglected with leaves everywhere and the cover just thrown to the side. Overall, the house was fairly clean and had all the amenities that we needed.

This was our second stay in this house, we love the location as it provides private sound side beach that is perfect for children. The layout of house works well for families. Updated flooring and some furniture was a nice surprise this year. The pool and hot tub was used and appreciated for breaks from the sand and waves.

This house is great for a family with kids/teens. It was wonderful having the sound as your backyard. Great place to kayak and relax. The view was amazing! Beautiful sunsets! You couldn't ask for a better view! Kitchen was well stocked.

We did a lot of the local attractions. But it was nice to have a beach on the sound in the back yard and a pool. Kayaking the sound was cool and I caught a 24” Sea Trout! This place is set up very nicely to help anyone enjoy a vacation at the Outter Banks!

We stayed here a few years ago and it was nice to see the owners have done some updates. Some of the old carpets were replaced with a more durable laminate/luxury vinyl plank. The sunroom previously had some leaking that appeared to be resolved as well. Overall it was a good experience, other than the weather, which wasn't the house's fault. The pool is bigger/deeper than others we've stayed at, so that's always nice. The pool could use a repaint/resurface, but that doesn't affect it being useful. At first I thought it needed the hedges behind the pool trimmed, but realized they were actually helpful in keeping the wind at bay while in the pool. It could use a little bit of trimming in other areas though, but again, that's just being picky. The home is in a good location--close to groceries, restaurants and the lighthouse. It's just steps to the sound, and has a pool and hot tub. While it may still need some minor updates, it's really a good place to spend some time with family and friends. I would probably give it a 4.5 if it was an option, but not quite deserving of a 5, so had to go with 4.

The sunsets! This location has fabulous sunsets over the Pamlico Sound, as well as many other features. It was very clean. Has been updated recently. Has lots of cooking utensils, there was enough paper towels, toilet paper, and dish soap to last us through the week (there were only two of us!). The bed in the master is super comfy! We have stayed in this house several times before, probably 10 years ago. Love the new picture over the bed in the master - taken from the deck of the house during one of those grand sunsets!

Loved that it was nice house and comfortably lived in. Cute decor and very welcoming. Could have used clean bed linens, more towels. What I didn’t care for were Two bed covers had urine stains. There were busted out Adirondack chairs, a lot of charcoal grills, busted screens and floor stains. Could have used an extra pillow or two. Not sure if Vacasa is getting enough cleaners in the houses. Should maybe have a supervisor go around and sign off when a house should be ready. Not very fun to come in and have to make six beds but don’t have enough bed covers and sheets. High touch areas should also include beds. Not just kitchen and bathrooms.

Had a great week staying at the Great ‘Scape. Only main complaints were the dirty carpet and the mattresses were not very comfortable. But otherwise, it was a really nice place. Loved being right there on the sound and having a pool. Would definitely come back and stay here again!

The pros: the location of this house is fantastic, especially if you have kids or prefer to spend your time in the sound rather than the ocean. Having a small beach associated with the sound less than a hundred yards from the house is priceless. The pool was great as well - yeah the liner looks a little worn but the water was clean and we used it every day. The house also feels so secluded that you can pretend you’re the only people on the island. Inside the house, the kitchen is well stocked with anything you could possibly need. All the TVs are smart TVs with access to Netflix, etc. The internet worked well and the washer and dryer are pretty high end compared to other places we’ve stayed. The outdoor space is really nice - the top deck stays shaded most of the day which is perfect for reading in the afternoons. The cons: the bed in the king master needs replaced - it’s serviceable but not super comfortable. The couches in the living room are the same - clean but not super comfortable. Most of the screens on the deck doors have pretty huge holes in them and what little deck furniture there is needs to be replaced. More furniture would be nice too - maybe a porch swing or something. There was evidence of mice in the kitchen but it was confined to two drawers and when we notified the company they immediately sent someone from pest control to deal with it. Aside from this, this was one of the cleanest places we’ve ever stayed. The one thing that was pretty major was a large hole in the ceiling of the spare bathroom on the third floor. We had to assume no previous renters had reported it as when we notified the company they arranged to have someone come to take photos of it, presumably for repairs. The summary of this review is that I would stay here again because the access to the sound cannot be beat. Overall the house is clean and functional. I’d love to see a new king bed, new couches, and new porch furniture if we stay here again next year.

We had a great week stay here! We noticed that previous reviews mentioned some issues with the house (poor internet, bad pots and pans, unsafe stairs) and I am happy to report that all of those issues have been resolved! The location was convenient to get to the ocean, the grocery store, and several restaurants, there was a fantastic sunset view, and we loved being on the Sound! Highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a quiet beach vacation!

Our family (my husband and I and three 20-something children) stayed for a week during mid-May. We loved the set-up of the house. The top floor (which also has the large master bedroom) has a good "open concept" kitchen, living room, dining room, sun room. It was great for hanging out. The middle floor had a smaller master and two more rooms (one with bunks) that shared a bathroom. All but the "kids" bunkroom had gorgeous views and every room including the "kids" room had deck access. We had fun playing pool in the basement. And we loved the swimming pool. Even though it was not an option to have it heated, everyone was able to swim it in. The pool appears dirty but it's not - the bottom is just stained - the water was clear and clean. Nearby trees shed leaves into it but they were scooped out pretty easily with the provided nets. Watch out for mosquitoes at night and bees during the day. The hot tub heated up nicely and was and roomy enough for all 5 of us. Overall, the home was clean. It's not perfect - it's a beach house. The carpeting was older and probably not super clean but it didn't spoil anything. We saw mouse droppings (but no mice) but there were also traps set out. Traps were empty and once I cleaned the dropping, we saw no more so I think the critters found other housing arrangements and I appreciated that the traps existed. The loveseat in living room has seen better days but it functioned. The counterpart sofa was more comfortable. The view of the Sound is obstructed by the trees when you are at the pool but both the top and middle decks have amazing views. Sunsets were particularly beautiful. The path to the small beach area was clear through the trees. We rented a kayak for the week from a local company and they delivered for free and we could launch from the beach. (Would be a bonus if a kayak or canoe came with the home.) This home is located in Buxton which is 15 minutes from Hatteras Village one way and 10 minutes to Avon the other way. We wished more restaurants/bars had been opened for both lunch and dinner but most seemed only open for one or the other or not even at all - maybe because it was not quite "in season" for summer or because of being short staffed or just because everyone loves these big homes so much they don't leave a lot! Oh - we did use the kitchen to cook. It was great. Reviews in the past have talked about poor kitchen contents. If that was the case, it has been rectified. Lots of clean pots and pans of all sizes and a ton of cutlery. Blender, Keurig, toaster over, toaster all included. (Note one of the outlets didn't work in the kitchen but there are plenty of others) The home was furnished with a roll of paper towels and a couple of garbage bags but you'll want more of your own for a week. There were also a few detergent samples for the washer and dryer (which appeared to be very new) and plenty of soap and shampoo in the bathrooms. No hair dryers. We had enough toilet paper for the whole week - not sure if that's always the case. Bring your own spices, baggie, foil. There were also no kitchen dishtowels but there were potholders. Each TV in the house has either a firestick or Roku. Use your own log ins to get to Netflix etc. but there were plenty of free apps on them too. Also - internet access was perfect. I had no trouble with a Zoom meeting for work and our laptops seemed to work throughout the house. Vacasa was good to deal with and were good with communication. Again - overall, we loved this place. Reviews that I could find before we arrived were lukewarm at best so I was happy that it appeared owners had taken steps to make improvements. Thank you so much to the owners for sharing their space (for a reasonable price). We had a fabulous week.
