Have a whale of a good time on your next vacation at The Knotty Whale with water views from every window! This bright and beachy ocean-side home offers plenty of stylish comforts for the whole family, pets included! You'll have four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, wraparound decks, and a private hot tub and pool, all just steps from the beach. On the first floor, you'll find plenty of room to find your own private escape in one queen primary bedroom, a second queen bedroom, and a twin bunk with a trundle room. The queen and bunk bedrooms share a spacious full hallway bathroom. The kids will also love the open bonus area with an additional set of twin bunk beds. All four of these rooms open out to the first-floor deck, and all three bedrooms have TVs. The first floor is also home to the stacked washer/dryer in the hallway laundry closet and the hot tub on the beach-facing deck just outside the second queen bedroom. But as much as you'll love the first floor, the main floor will have you hooked in no time. Wall-to-wall views of the sparkling blue waves are reflected in the fun and chic nautical style of the open living room, kitchen, and dining area. Here you can spread out but still spend plenty of time together with comfy couches around the living room fireplace, a dining table for six, and a neat island bar with seats for four. Make your way outside to the top deck for the perfect spots for dolphin watching or a cup of coffee at sunrise. The main floor is also where you'll find a primary with a TV and a private deck. This spot is ideal for soaking up those Hatteras Island sunsets over the sound. Back on the sandy ground level, enjoy The Knotty Whale's refreshing private pool or an easy walk to the beach. The location and overall home layout is nice. Unfortunately the beds, linens and towels need updating. A huge part of vacation is comfort!! If they make these switches it will be perfect!

Comfort is important to us; we’ve scheduled an inspection of the mattresses and are replacing worn linens and towels during the next maintenance cycle. Steps away from the beach. The house was very clean and accommodated 7 adults! The pool and hot tub was an added touch. This is the 2nd time my family has rented the Knotty Whale and we will be returning for another vacation stay in OBX

The Knotty Whale was fantastic! We loved being in Rodanthe. You are completely out of the touristy area so the beach was never crowded. There were times we had the entire beach to ourselves! It was great that we could bring our dogs with us. The unit itself was comfortable but a little worn, but I wasn’t looking for a glamorous house. It was “beachy”. If you are mobility impaired, this would be a tough unit for you. It has 36 stairs to get to the main floor. 36 stairs every time you take the dogs out. 36 stairs every time you go to the beach. 36 stairs every time you go out exploring. (I averaged 10x up and down the stairs every day, but on the positive side, I think I actually lost weight on this vacation! lol) Pros: Location Able to bring dogs On beach Hot tub and pool Cons: Master bedroom mattress needs to be replaced 36 stairs to get on the main level. Beach was beautiful but surf was too powerful for us to go in and swim in the ocean Limited restaurant choices within 10 min driving Overall we loved it here. I would not hesitate to stay at the Knotty Whale again.

We loved the open views from the common areas - living, eating and kitchen. Lots of windows and an open feel. The decks, hot tub and two bedrooms also share the views. Perfect for long quiet beach walks. Just walk north and in 5 min you are on endless miles of the undeveloped beaches of Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. South is about a mile beach walk to the Rodanthe Pier.

After viewing reviews, I was nervous. But when we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. There was plenty of cookware! No need to take extra like we did. The couches are different than what are pictured. They’re still comfy though! The bathrooms are great sizes, nothing special about the tubs but the hot tub makes up for them. The water pressure is lacking but that is to be expected! I have thick hair, so just be patient and spend a little extra time rinsing. There’s a beautiful large white female dog that will greet you on the beach around 9am. She’s lovely and very kind. She enjoys a good back scratch. The location is perfect. You’re basically right in the middle of everything. You pass Bodie Lighthouse getting to the house. Hatteras is right down the road. The ferry to Ocracoke is a little further down from Hatteras. Then you have Currituck a little over an hour ride. All worth the visit and the drives aren’t bad at all. Obviously we missed out on a lot since we went during the winter but we had a blast. I do and already have recommended this home to serve as your home away from home for your next getaway.
