It's official!  The new Ocracoke Passenger Ferry will start service between Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island starting Monday, May 20th. After setbacks with the building of the passenger ferry, the ferry division is leasing the M/V Martha's Vineyard Express from New Jersey for the season. The Ocracoke passenger ferry has been a hit! Over 5,200 passenger have been carried between Hatteras Island and Ocracoke since its first run on May 20th.  Currently, the ferry runs three trips per day from both Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. With the current schedule, passengers have commented that the return time of 7pm is too early to depart from Ocracoke due to visitors wanting to have time to dine out in Ocracoke.
