Day at the Docks
September 18–19, 2026 | Hatteras Village
Celebrate the people and traditions behind Hatteras Island’s working waterfront during Day at the Docks. This annual Hatteras Village event features local seafood, live music, demonstrations, commercial and charter boats, children’s activities and opportunities to learn more about the island’s maritime heritage.
The weekend begins Friday with Seafood Under the Stars, followed by the main waterfront festival on Saturday. The main celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along the Hatteras Village waterfront.

Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival
October 13–18, 2026 | Hatteras Island & the Outer Banks
Fall is an incredible time to explore the natural side of the Outer Banks, and Wings Over Water offers plenty of ways to do it. This multi-day wildlife festival features guided birding, photography, paddling and nature experiences throughout the region.
Several 2026 programs bring visitors directly to Hatteras Island, including Hatteras Point birding excursions and outings through Buxton Woods and nearby coastal habitats. Whether you’re an experienced birder or simply enjoy exploring the outdoors, it’s a different way to experience the island in fall.

NCBBA Red Drum Tournament
October 21–24, 2026 | Hatteras Island
When fall arrives on Hatteras Island, so does red drum season. The annual North Carolina Beach Buggy Association Red Drum Tournament brings anglers together for several days of surf fishing along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
The tournament has become a favorite fall tradition for anglers, but even if you’re not competing, October is a great time to bring your own fishing gear and see why surf fishing is such a big part of the Hatteras Island experience.
Cape Hatteras Anglers Club Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament
November 4–7, 2026 | Hatteras Island
One of Hatteras Island’s longest-running fishing traditions returns in November. Hosted by the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club, the Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament brings teams of anglers to the island for competitive surf fishing and a celebration of the fishing culture that has long been part of life on Hatteras Island.
For generations of anglers, this tournament has been part of what makes fall on Hatteras Island special.
